I am happy to greet all those who visit Chungwoon University’s website. Chungwoon University is a four-year university, founded in 1995 by the late Mr. Jong-Sung, Lee, who founded Hyejeon College in the year of 1982. He was a big businessman and the CEO of Chungnam Spinning & Weaving Company Ltd. He was also a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea representing this region, and was willing to invest his profit for the public good. Accordingly, he founded the two institutions to contribute to the regional development.

Chungwoon campus is located in the Hongseong County of Chungnam Province, in the mid-west part of Korea and has the large area of about 500,000㎡ covered with pine forests. As a higher educational institution, Chungwoon University has grown rapidly for more than 10 years and has turned out a top university in the world, as well as in the whole country.

Chungwoon University has been faithful in performing its duty according to the idea of university education and the university precepts, and applies strict rules to school affairs. As the fruit of all the Chungwoon members’ efforts, it has obtained a lot of excellent results and a nationwide reputation as:

1) a highly specialized university in broadcasting sector supported with    the government subsidies for 7 years(1997-2003)

2) an Excellent University in Education Reform selected by the government in 2002

3) an Excellent University in Industry-Education Consortium selected by the government with the Prime Minister’s commendation in 2002

4) the second ranked university in the financial management evaluation by the Korean Private School Development Foundation in 2005

With the above-mentioned improvement in quality, Chungwoon University has been able to produce many competent graduates and has shown a high percentage of employment.

I’ve set three goals to ensure the prosperity of Chungwoon University: ’localization’, ’improvement’, and ’globalization.’ We have maintained our friendship with the local society by establishing a Life-long Education Institute for the inhabitants here. Chungwoon University have made arrangements with many local public institutions for mutual cooperation. We are also actively pursuing tens of millions of dollars for research funds.

Nowadays, the universities in Korea have a duty for the globalization of the country. We’ve framed a positive policy and are very active in carrying it out. Chungwoon University has made agreements with many universities from the U.S.A., China, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Australia. We’ve been carrying out the students’ 2+2 program(dual degree system) and 3+1 program and language training system with these universities. Other exchange programs, such as the mutual exchange of professors for teaching languages and graduate students for Master’s degrees, are vivaciously in operation.

Chungwoon University is young. It might be small in size, but it is growing strong. In 2012, a provincial office of Chungnam is moving into Hongseong. This will be a great opportunity for the rapid growth of Chungwoon University. We are going to found a branch campus near the provincial office to actively cooperate with public institutions and to carry out life-long education. With the successful achievement of this project, Chungwoon University will be able to reach the goal of being a higher ranked university in Korea.

The duty and responsibility of a university is now growing bigger and bigger according to the change of modern society into a knowledge-based one. The stakes among universities have become competitive. We need to do our best so that Chungwoon University can gain a higher rank in Korea, and become internationally famous.
